The Story Behind Daughter for Hire by Kindly Concierge
A Personal Journey That Inspired Our Mission
My mother’s first language is Spanish. For years, whenever she had an appointment with her family doctor—who also spoke Spanish—everything went smoothly. But specialists? That was a different story.
I would have to take time off work to translate, or scramble to find someone to accompany her. On one particularly tough day, I had already used up all my sick and personal days (for myself, my children, and Mom). I had a major meeting in Toronto that I absolutely could not miss.
My dear friend stepped in as a huge favor. Her only task: take Mom by transit to the specialist, hold the phone so I could join via WhatsApp video from an empty boardroom, translate in real time, and make sure Mom felt safe and supported—like a daughter would. After the appointment, she brought Mom home, settled her with a cup of tea and a sandwich, and stayed until she was comfortable.
That day was a turning point. I felt such relief knowing Mom was in caring hands, that she wasn’t alone or anxious, and that I could still be “present” without guilt. But I also realized: next time, I shouldn’t have to rely on favors from friends. There needed to be a reliable, kind professional—a “daughter-like” companion—who could step in with the same warmth and attention.
That experience planted the seed for Daughter for Hire by Kindly Concierge.
A few years passed. I was busy raising my family, building my career, and helping Mom when she needed it. She was still fiercely independent—loved her bingo nights, her circle of friends, and living life on her own terms.
Then came the first stroke. Hospital stays, rehabilitation, navigating the healthcare system—it was overwhelming, but we managed. The following year brought a second, much more severe stroke. Our entire family went into crisis mode.
Suddenly, the occasional help wasn’t enough. Mom needed consistent support to stay safely and happily at home. I saw firsthand how vital reliable, compassionate care is—not just the medical side, but the human side: someone to listen, to accompany, to ease the loneliness, to give family caregivers a much-needed break.
I wished there had been a service like the one I’m building now: warm, trustworthy companions (and when needed, certified PSWs and nurses) who treat your loved one like family.
That’s why Daughter for Hire by Kindly Concierge exists today.
We’re here to be that caring presence when you can’t be there yourself—so your parent or loved one feels safe, heard, and truly cared for, and so you can live your life with less worry and guilt.
