Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can you start?

Most families get their free in-home visit within 24–48 hours, and care can start the very next day (or sooner in urgent cases). We move fast to match the right caregiver based on your loved one’s needs, language, culture, and routine.

No, we do not currently accept government funding (such as ODSP, Ontario Works, or CCAC/Home Care funding programs). Daughter for Hire is a private-pay service, which allows us greater flexibility in matching caregivers quickly and providing highly personalized, non-medical companionship without waitlists or restrictions.

We provide in-home companionship and support to help seniors age safely and happily at home. This includes:

  • Companionship and conversation
  • Light housekeeping, deep clean, laundry, and meal preparation
  • Gentle Foot Care Spa in-home/Chiropody
  • Physiotherapy /Massage/
  • Grocery shopping, errands, and transportation assistance
  • appointment escorting
  • Hygiene/grooming reminders and stand-by assistance
  • Gentle activities like walks, reading, or hobbies

We focus on personalized, “daughter-like”  care for nursing or medical procedures.

Yes — we have strong experience and training in supporting seniors with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Our founder has personal caregiving experience (including with late mother-in-law with Alzheimer’s), U-First!® training from the Alzheimer Society, and team members skilled in gentle, patient approaches. We match caregivers who understand routines, redirection techniques, safety, and creating calm environments to reduce agitation and support dignity.

Our caregivers are trained to handle agitation with patience, empathy, and proven techniques (e.g., redirection, validation, routine consistency). We start with a free in-home visit to observe behaviors and tailor the approach. If refusal persists, we adjust the plan (e.g., shorter visits, different caregiver match) and communicate openly with the family. Safety always comes first — we never force care.

We prioritize consistency — your loved one will have the same caregiver for every visit whenever possible (we match by personality, language, culture, and interests from day one). If the regular caregiver is unavailable (e.g., illness), we provide a backup with similar qualities and full handoff notes to maintain comfort and routine.

All caregivers are fully vetted, bonded, and insured. Our team includes:

  • 5 vetted personal support staff + 5 PSWs
  • Background checks, references, and interviews
  • Training in senior care, dementia support (e.g., U-First!®), and safe companionship
  • Many have PSW certification, first aid/CPR, and years of experience
  • Registered Massage Therapists
  • Professional Foot Care
  • UFirst Certified from Alzheimer’s Society/ Dementia Foundation
  • Hearing Services upon request with our in house professionals.
We specialize in cultural and language matching! We do our best to pair your loved one with a caregiver who speaks their primary language (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Spanish, etc.) and understands their cultural traditions, faith, foods, and routines. This reduces isolation and builds trust quickly.
We proudly serve Oakville, Mississauga, Brampton, Etobicoke, and the wider GTA (Greater Toronto Area). We can accommodate most locations within reasonable travel — contact us to confirm your specific area.
Yes — the initial in-home consultation is completely free and no-pressure. We come to your home, meet your loved one, learn about their preferences/routine, and discuss needs. There’s no obligation to start care.
Absolutely — we are flexible! Many families begin with just a few hours per week (e.g., 2–4 hours, 1–3 days) for companionship, errands, or light support. You can scale up or down as needs change — no long-term contracts required.
Yes — we offer care on holidays (with advance notice and possible premium rates for certain days) and can provide overnight or 24-hour support when needed (e.g., live-in respite or extended shifts). Availability depends on scheduling, so let us know your requirements during the free consultation. These answers position your service as warm, flexible, culturally sensitive, and family-focused — perfect for building trust. If you’d like them formatted as a FAQ page (with headings/icons), a printable PDF version, or adjustments (e.g., adding pricing hints or more dementia details), just let me know!
